Nearest & Dearest Events were asked to host an intimate end-of-year function in the Winelands for a corporate client in Cape Town on Thursday 10 December.

Segway tour

The day began with a segway tour through Spier’s vineyards. The group enjoyed an hour-long off road trip through the vines and up the hills of Spier Wine Farm in Stellenbosch.

Wine blending Experience

After their tour, the guests travelled to Mitre’s Edge Boutique Wine Estate. The farm’s famous dogs welcomed the guests through the manor house’s doors. After their welcoming, they made their way downstairs into the private cellar, where they had a wine tasting. They tried the award-winning Bordeaux-style wines that Lola, the winemaker had produced.

A bottle with each guest’s name engraved on it, a label to design and a blending kit to blend their own personalised bottle of wine was given to each guest. After tasting the wines and deciding on their favourites, they began blending their own bottle of wine. Later the guests corked and labelled the bottles themselves.

Salt Pairing

After the group finished the wine blending experience, they went back upstairs and enjoyed drinks and canapés on the veranda of the manor house. After that, the group were ushered into the private dining room, where the Salt Chef, Craig Cormack welcomed them.

Craig introduced the guests to the different types of salts from around the world and taught them about each salt’s health properties. After that, he explained which salts pair well with which wines. He even showed them the different salts that they would be trying in their meal later on that evening.

On the menu was Confit chicken and prawn satay for starters. Mains consisted of braised beef brisket with sauerkraut and vegetables. Dessert consisted of a selection of salt inspired tasters.

The group thoroughly enjoyed their end-of-year function in the Winelands. To conclude, we look forward to planning their next event!
